1. What does the word "Protasco" stand for? It is short for "Professional Trading & Services Company" . From the outset, the two founders, Group Executive Chairman YBhg Dato' Ir Hasnur Rabiain Ismail and Managing Director YBhg Dato' Ir Chong Ket Pen were determined to see to it that Protasco becomes a professional-driven service oriented group. 2. When was Protasco listed and where is its HQ? Protasco was listed on the Main Board of Bursa Malaysia (then Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange) on 8 August 2003 under the "Construction" sector. With its HQ in Kuala Lumpur, Protasco is one of the medium-sized local companies tracked by Netresearch-Asia Sdn Bhd under the CMDF - Bursa Research Scheme (see www.bursamalaysia.com/website/listing/eresearch.htm) 3. How big is the Group and its subsidiaries? Protasco is manned by about 1350 dedicated employees comprising professionals, managers, sub-professionals and other support staff. Currently we have five major subsidiaries (see Corporate Structure). 4. What business is Protasco involved in? Protasco is essentially a concessionaire, construction and engineering services Group, backed by related consultancy, education, training and trading services. At present, there are five core business divisions. 5. Is Protasco an integrated one-stop business group? Yes, we are. Protasco has always wanted to give the best service to its esteemed clients without making them endure the time, cost and pain of having to go from one service provider to another in search of innovative solutions. This is consistent with our Vision of " Engineering Infrastructure Solutions for a Better Quality of Life!" Hence we endeavour to integrate and focus on what we are capable of, from site investigation to design, testing, construction, maintenance, rehabilitation, upgrading, quality assurance, training, education and R&D, carving a niche to the satisfaction of clients. 6. What else is unique about Protasco? Apart from normal construction-related projects, Protasco has also been entrusted with three major long-term concessions which provide stability in earnings - two for road maintenance and another for engineering services (see Concession section). Our R & D products include Q-Mix, QS3E emulsion and bridge joints. 7. How can Protasco ensure that Quality becomes its hallmark Protasco really believes in its people as its most important asset. We spend a great deal annually on training and human resource development, imparting to them the essential soft and technical skills and relevant knowledge. We also equip them with the right attitude so that together we can strive harder to propel Protasco forward. Indeed the Group, noted for its innovation and national leadership on pavement recycling, proactively gives due priorities to both the "software" and "hardware" aspects of our operations, including a strong emphasis on R&D. 8. What are some of the Awards which Protasco has bagged? To date, four companies under the Protasco stable have been certified with ISO 9001:2000. These companies are HCM Engineering, Ikram Training & Infrastructure Development Institute (ITiDi), Kuala Lumpur Infrastructure University College (KLIUC) and Ikram Central. In 2005, ITiDi received Innovative Learning & Development Award while HCM Engineering's Human Resources Department bagged the Innovative Human Capital Development Award. 9. Where are Protasco's business operations or markets? The group has graduated from a humble beginning in the early 1990s to a public-listed company in 2003. Since then, it has leveraged on its accumulated expertise in Malaysia and made inroads into Singapore, China, Papua New Guinea, Bangladesh and Libya. Protasco will continue to actively seek business opportunities locally and abroad. 10. Who owns Protasco? Protasco is a public company (limited by shares). Protasco's paid-up capital is RM150 million, comprising 300,000 ordinary shares of RM0.50 each. 12. What is Protasco's financial year end? 31 December. 13. Are dividends distributed to shareholders? Yes, dividends have been distributed to shareholders and were paid twice a year, where practicable. |
