Lloyd's Register ISO-Certifies HCM

By Shukri Rahman

Kuala Lumpur, 8 Dec 2003: UK-based Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) today officially certified HCM Engineering Sdn Bhd (HCM), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Protasco Bhd, as an International Organisation for Standard (ISO)-compliant company.

LRQA’s Country Manager, Encik Ahmad Nainy Mokhtar presented the prestigious ISO 9001 : 2000 certificate to YBhg Dato’ Ir Haji Hasnur Rabiain Ismail, HCM’s Managing Director -cum- Protasco’s Executive Chairman at a ceremony here.

Getting the certification which covers HCM’s core business in construction, maintenance, rehabilitation and upgrading of roads and highways is a historic achievement for HCM, which thus joined four other units from the Protasco stable that obtained their ISO certification in 2000 and 2001. In a concerted effort to raise the quality of services offered by Protasco’s major companies, Dato’ Hasnur said that HCM’s 51%-subsidiary, Roadcare (M) Sdn Bhd had also initiated its own ISO exercise.

Applauding HCM General Manager-cum-Steering Committee Chairman, Encik Mohd Nasir Hassan and its members, QA Manager, Puan Pauziah Kasim, her team and all HCM staff members who have worked hard for the newly-acquired ISO status, the managing director also reminded them of the need to be sensitive and vigilant to the changing operating environment. He challenged them to continuously deliver Quality services in line with the company’s persistent bid to establish a most favourable brand name which can compete effectively inside and outside Malaysia.

To mark its seriousness in going global, Dato’ Hasnur added that HCM would soon set up an Overseas Unit at a new building, located adjacent to its present Headquarters here.

He urged all staff members to use today’s ISO certification as a springboard to rise to the occasion and consistently excel in the following criteria, used by Fortune magazine in evaluating the performance of the world’s most admired companies:

• Leader in innovation
• Financial soundness
• Strong talents
• Smart use of corporate assets
• Long-term investment value
• Social responsibility
• Quality management
• Quality products and services
