It was a traditional occasion, one that was organized year after year in Ikram Park. The occasion is none other than the annual ‘Iftar Perdana’, where all citizens of Protasco Berhad as well as students of KLIUC, regardless of race or religion, come together to “ break fast” with their Muslim friends, in the spirit of Ramadhan.
For this year, Iftar was held recently, on 24th of September 2008, held at the Surau area of Ikram Park. It was a joyful event indeed, with an approximately 1,500 attendees which include staff, students as well as invited guests and friends of Protasco Berhad and KLIUC. Among the VIP’s were senior officers from the Ministry of Higher Education, YBhg Dato’ Hasnur Rabiain, Executive Chairman of Protasco Berhad and his wife, YBhg Datin Kamisah, as well as the heads from various departments.
As the guests mingled while waiting for the time to “berbuka” the ceremony was harmonized by the sound of smooth middle eastern drum beats played by students of KLIUC. The guests also received a special token of traditional rice porridge or “Bubur Lambuk” packs each, for them to take home. The “Bubur Lambuk”, a special dish that is traditionally prepared during fasting months, were cooked by the Kumpulan Ikram Corporate staff with help by some volunteers from the SFGA department in the spirit of teamwork. This teamwork is often practiced in mosques and in kampungs, and is called “rewang”.
Once the “berbuka” is done, the Muslims then proceeded to the Surau for Maghrib and Isya’ prayers, and followed by Terawikh prayers. The event ended with some “moreh” or post-“terawikh” supper, at around 11pm.
