A dialogue in Ulu Klang about the slope above Taman Bukit Permai

August 19, 2023

Residents of Ulu Klang met the contractor and the council to discuss how a repaired slope is maintained. Ikram Works attended as design and build contractor for the remedial works.

On 19 August 2023 residents of Ulu Klang met engineers and council officers at Dewan Komuniti Bukit Mulia, Majlis Perbandaran Ampang Jaya, to talk about the slope above Taman Bukit Permai. SeDAR Malaysia-Japan, which runs community disaster resilience work, convened the session and invited Ikram Works Sdn Bhd and the council to take part.

Ikram Works was the design and build contractor for the slope failure remedial works at Taman Bukit Permai, and the project was in its final phase when the dialogue was held. The presentations dealt with how a repaired slope is maintained afterwards, and how that maintenance prevents further failure. Residents then put questions to both Ikram Works and the council.

Dato' Ir. Ts. Hj. Mohd Taufik bin Haron, chief executive officer of Ikram Works, said the dialogue signified a shift in how infrastructure development is approached, and that the community's involvement and feedback were invaluable.

Remedial work on a hillside finishes long before the risk does. What holds afterwards is inspection, drainage upkeep and someone knowing who to call when water starts running the wrong way. The households living below the slope notice those things first, which is the practical argument for sitting in a community hall with them instead of closing the file at handover.
