On 18 January 2026 the Kelantan state government said road maintenance for Packages 3B and 3C of Jalan Gua Musang would be taken over by federal road concessionaire Roadcare, following the expiry of the previous maintenance contract in October 2025. The State Exco for Public Works, Infrastructure, Water and Rural Development, YB Dato' Dr Izani Husin, said federal JKR headquarters had authorised Roadcare to maintain the route from that day.
The gap had consequences on the ground. Izani said the absence of a contractor over the preceding months meant maintenance could not be carried out in an orderly way, which affected traffic flow and driver comfort, and that the road had deteriorated to the point of numerous potholes and congestion. Under the new arrangement Roadcare will apply to JKR Persekutuan for budget allocation, state JKR will monitor the works, and Roadcare will assess whether pothole patching or full resurfacing is required. The state government wants the repairs accelerated, with part of the work finished before Chinese New Year in February 2026.
Packages 3B and 3C cover roughly seven kilometres from Bandar Baru to the main town. Package 3D, about 10 kilometres from Taman Wangi to Mentara, remains the responsibility of the existing contractor, Syarikat Jaya Zira. Izani also said patching already carried out on the bypass had improved traffic flow there, and that more thorough repairs including resurfacing would be requested.
What has been granted is authorisation to maintain the route, with funding still to be applied for from federal JKR. No contract value is stated. That sequence, authorisation first and allocation after, is how work is picked up inside a federal road concession, and it is the mechanism that lets a stretch left without a contractor be brought back under maintenance without waiting for a fresh tender.
